Aston Villa Round-Up, Sunday 25th October: Nicolas Jackson Brace Sinks Manchester City as Villa Park Erupts
It's all about Nicolas Jackson this evening after the striker inspired Aston Villa to a brilliant 2-1 victory over Manchester City, scoring both goals himself in front of a buzzing Villa Park. (BBC Sport) (GiveMeSport) (Birmingham Live)
Match of the Day pundits Martin Keown and Steph Houghton were full of praise on the show, with Keown hailing Jackson as a "special talent" after his match-winning display. (BBC Sport) Pundits weren't the only ones impressed - Alan Shearer apparently had his doubts about the forward, but Jackson's performance on Saturday did the talking and proved him wrong. (GiveMeSport)
The Express & Star's verdict piece reckons Jackson is riding the crest of a wave right now, and credits Unai Emery with playing a key role in helping the former Chelsea man find this sensational form. (Express & Star) Birmingham Live meanwhile say the win sent a real statement to the rest of the Premier League, ending City's perfect start to the season and showing that Villa possess a "priceless" quality as the doubters are made to fade away once again. (Birmingham Live) Fans can catch the highlights of that win, along with the rest of the weekend's Premier League action including Chelsea v Spurs, Arsenal v Everton and Coventry v Fulham, on Match of the Day via the BBC. There's also an update on a familiar face from Villa's recent past. Harvey Elliott, who spent a difficult spell on loan at Aston Villa last season, has now hit trouble on his new loan at Valencia from Liverpool, with the Spanish club's manager having to issue a statement on the matter. On the women's side, Aston Villa Women picked up an excellent 3-2 win away at Everton in the Women's Super League, with Amalie Vangsgaard grabbing both goals in a performance that saw Villa hold on despite a late fightback from the Toffees at Goodison Park. (BBC Sport)
A solid day all round for the club, capped by a result against Manchester City that will have Villa Park bouncing for days to come.
