Aston Villa v Manchester City live: score, updates and line-ups

Full time: Aston Villa 2-1 Manchester City. A superb Jackson brace either side of Haaland's leveller proves enough, as Villa hold firm through a nerve-shredding finish despite City dominating possession and piling on late pressure. Suzuki was outstanding between the sticks, denying Haaland again deep into stoppage time, while Villa's resolute defending saw out six added minutes to seal a huge win at Villa Park.

City have kept probing but Villa's resolve hasn't cracked - Foden saw a shot blocked at 86' and McAidoo was flagged offside soon after, with Villa making fresh changes as Madjo and Goretzka came on for Jackson and Gomes. Fouls keep interrupting the flow, with Kamara twice conceding in his own half, but the back line is holding firm as Villa Park braces for a nervy finish at 2-1.

City have continued to dominate the ball and territory since Jackson's second, with Gvardiol twice going close - a header wide and then a low effort well saved by Suzuki, who's now made five stops. Villa are having to soak up pressure and defend set pieces, with Barkley and Gomes both giving away fouls in dangerous areas, but the 2-1 lead stands firm heading into the final 15 minutes.

What a response! Barely a minute after replacement Mbaye entered the fray, he turns provider for Jackson, who slots home from close range to restore Villa's lead. Jackson now has a brace, and Villa Park is bouncing again at 2-1.

Haaland levels it as City finally find their reward - Ndiaye's cross from the resulting set piece picked out the striker for a close-range header that Suzuki had no chance with. Villa's resistance has been broken and it's honours even at Villa Park.

Quiet start to the second half with the stats barely moving - City have made a double change, bringing on Foden and Rico Lewis for Cherki and Guéhi at the break, but the pattern looks similar so far. Fouls from Alysson and Maatsen show Villa still having to work hard without the ball, though City haven't yet added to their shot count since the restart.

City continue to dominate territory but Villa are holding firm. Guéhi and Cherki have both picked up bookings for fouls as City push for an equaliser, with Doku's blocked effort their best route through. Manzambi's direct free-kick from the resulting foul drifted over, but otherwise it's been City knocking and Villa defending as half-time nears with the lead intact.

City have responded well and taken a firm grip on this one without finding the breakthrough. Suzuki has been excellent, saving from Ndiaye, Cherki and Khusanov, while Ndiaye also crashed an effort against the woodwork. Villa's final punch came from Jackson's off-target chance on the break, but with possession and shots now firmly in City's favour, Villa will need to ride this spell out.

Villa are flying! Jackson curls a right-footed effort into the top left corner from the left side of the box after McGinn picks him out, and Villa Park erupts. Early signs of a bright, front-footed start from the home side, who've already had three shots to City's none.
