Aston Villa Lunchtime Round-Up, Sunday 1st November 2026: Emery's Side Prepare for Barcelona Test as Carragher Row Rumbles on

Villa fans are still digesting Friday's draw with Fulham, with supporter Amy Finley telling the BBC that there was "no thriller" at Villa Park on Halloween and that the mistakes made were a source of real frustration (BBC Sport). Victor Lindelöf echoed that mood, admitting he was disappointed not to come away with all three points from the game (AVFC.co.uk).

Attention now turns to the Champions League trip to the Camp Nou, where Sports Mole have previewed Villa's clash with Barcelona and run the rule over both likely lineups (Sports Mole) (Sports Mole). Barcelona could hand Lamine Yamal the chance to chase a record previously held by Kylian Mbappe (Sports Mole), while Villa are tipped to make a couple of changes of their own, with Leon Goretzka reportedly set to drop out (Sports Mole). Sports Mole have also dug into the history between the two clubs ahead of the European battle (Sports Mole). On the playing side, GiveMeSport reckon Unai Emery may have unearthed another gem in the mould of Morgan Rogers (GiveMeSport).

Off the pitch, the fallout continues from Jamie Carragher's comments about Emery on the Stick To Football podcast, which prompted Villa to threaten legal action (Birmingham Live) (Birmingham Live). Carragher's apology has done little to calm things down, with Birmingham Live reporting he's been targeted further since, while Piers Morgan has also weighed in with criticism of the pundit's climbdown (Birmingham Live) (Birmingham Live). Elsewhere, TeamTalk report on how Villa owner Nassef Sawiris has responded amid talk of Manchester United's interest in Emery (TeamTalk).
